How much do funeral flowers cost?

Deciding on an appropriate floral tribute for a loved one can seem a daunting task, and it can be especially difficult if you have no idea what to expect from your budget.

If it is for a close family member, to help with setting your budget it is helpful to decide whether your family would like to come together and send one collective tribute, of if you would like to do your own thing separately. This will give you an initial sense of what you’re looking to achieve and, therefore spend.

To give you a ballpark idea, here are a few suggestions of what you could expect funeral flowers to cost.

Price range £25.00 - £45.00

If you are working on a limited budget you can still choose from a variety of small handtied bouquets, posy arrangements and wreaths.

These designs are often chosen on behalf of small grandchildren or even pets who cannot chose for themselves but still want to be represented.

These smaller designs are created in seasonal flowers and are usually placed at the base of the casket accompanying the other family flowers.

Price range £55.00 – £125.00

In the medium budget range, for those looking for a smaller design I advise traditional wreaths (replicating the circle of life), single ended sprays (half the size of the double ended spray, see below), hearts, crosses and pillows.

These designs are often chosen by extended family members or friends, as they are substantial enough to be set apart, but are slightly smaller in size and therefore don’t overshadow a main family tribute.

Any of these designs can be created in an eco-friendly version using moss, or the tied sheaf can be taken away and added to vase.

Bespoke items are also available so whether you wish to send a more personalised design such as walking boots filled with flowers or a personal item added such as a hat or brooch these can be incorporated into these designs. (see the blog ‘Five ways to personalise funeral flowers’ for more ideas.)

Price range £135.00 - £350.00

At this end of the range you’re looking at the largest of the floral tributes, and families often put in together for these as we mentioned at the beginning.

The doubled ended spray is the most popular design as it goes on top of the casket. The double-ended spray (as opposed to the single ended mentioned above) means the flowers are visible from all angles whether this be in the hearse, in church or at the crematorium.

There are two main options available and this very much depends on whether the ceremony is a burial or a crematorium. The eco-friendly gifting spray is made up on the day of the funeral from eight separate bunches of flowers that can be gifted away to family and friends after the service.

Our signature eco gifting sprays are £245 for a 4/12 ft tribute and can be created in any colours. It is a hugely popular design and we’ve had so much positive feedback on this tribute due to its versatility and eco-friendly attributes.

The casket spray you created for our mum’s funeral was truly beautiful & perfectly represented her love for flowers & plants.

As the spray divided up, family members were so happy to take away a bouquet of these lovely flowers for themselves as well as leaving a tribute for mum.

The alternative to the gifting spray is a traditional double ended spray created in oasis or moss. These are used if you wish for the flowers to be left at the crematorium on a grave, as with a source of water these flowers will last much longer.

These can be made at 2/12 ft  (£135.00) to allow for other designs on top and can work well alongside other tributes on the casket, or one larger one on the top 31/3 ft £165.00, or full designs that cover the whole of the casket from £350.00

Floral tributes that also fall into the higher end category are lettering that spell out loved ones names: Mother, Dad, Auntie etc. These are usually based in flowers with coordinating flower spray or for a more natural look can be created in a mixed flower design. If you are also looking for decoration for wicker caskets or natural burial grounds foliage garlands and tied bunches will come in around a similar price level.

Hopefully this gives you a little more information on how much funeral flowers are likely to cost, and will have helped you with some of your decision making. As always, if you are unsure, do please drop me a line and I will be happy to help.
